The Cost of Bamboo Sheets in 2021

So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and spoil yourself with some new bamboo threads for your bed. Given that bamboo sheets are buttery soft, eco-friendly, moisture-wicking, hypoallergenic and durable, it’s no surprise you want to become a part of the bamboo bedding community.

But just what is the typical cost of bamboo sheets, and how much should you be willing to pay?

As Australia’s leading bamboo bedding retailer, Linenly are here to discuss the typical price of bamboo sheets, the factors influencing the cost of bamboo sheets and the benefits of bamboo sheets so that you can make a more informed decision when it comes to making the right purchase. Once you’ve made the leap to bamboo sheets, you’ll never turn back.

What Is the Cost of Bamboo Sheets?

As is the case with most bedding options, the cost of bamboo sheets varies between manufacturers. However, it should be said that shoppers should keep in mind that price is not the only indicator of quality. A higher price does not necessarily mean that a bamboo sheet is of a higher quality than one that costs less.

Budget options can cost a mere $50, whereas luxury options can reach prices of $300 or more. In saying this, there are plenty of high-quality bamboo sheet options in and around the $100 to $150 price range. When purchasing bamboo sheets, it’s important to consider the thread count, specific bamboo material type and its certification, among other characteristics to ensure you’re choosing the highest quality bamboo bedding at your desired price point.

Other costs to consider include shipping and return fees, which will vary depending on your location and chosen retailer. Some retailers may even offer free shipping. Linenly offers free shipping to customers who make an order of $50 or more. You’re welcome!

Factors Influencing Cost of Bamboo Sheets

As you’ve probably noticed, the average bamboo sheets price varies quite significantly across different retailers. But why? Well, there are a number of factors that influence the price of bamboo sheets, including (but not limited to):

  1. Manufacturing Processes

There are four varieties of bamboo fabric that are commonly found on the market today. These are: 100% bamboo viscose, 100% bamboo modal, 100% bamboo lyocell and bamboo blend. What makes these fabrics different from each other is the processes involved in their production. Each type of fabric has different environmental impacts and chemicals used.

For example, bamboo viscose is regarded as one of the most sustainable and innovative materials of recent times as non-toxic solvents are used, and non-hazardous effulents are produced. In contrast, bamboo modal uses chemical processes during manufacturing which is more harmful to the environment. As such, bamboo viscose typically costs more than bamboo modal due to its’ more desirable manufacturing processes.

  1. Type of Material

Depending on the type of bamboo material you purchase as bedding, the overall price will vary.

For example, bamboo lyocell is cheaper to produce and manufacture than bamboo viscose and is thus typically more affordable to purchase.

Moreover, bamboo blend sheets are typically cheaper than bamboo sheets made from 100% bamboo as the quality is not as high. Bamboo blend sheets are not as effective as 100% bamboo sheets in some areas like durability, moisture-wicking, choosing to instead focus on properties such as softness.

  1. Organic Certifications

The organic properties of bamboo sheets and their certification will alter the price of bamboo sheets. Bamboo sheets that are 100% organic are likely to cost more than their counterparts due to the extra effort needed in the manufacturing process.

Similarly, bamboo sheets sold by a retailer with certification that supports their manufacturing process may come at a higher cost. This is because this certified retailer has gone to extra lengths to make sure their product has not been developed using harmful substances that may otherwise contribute to the degradation of the environment.

Here at Linenly, we’re proud to say that all of our products are made from 100% organic bamboo fibres, produced without any toxins or harmful substances. Our bamboo sheets boast an Oeko-Tex certification, proving they were manufactured according to organic guidelines and standards. Linenly’s bamboo sheets are made to be biodegradable in the long term to avoid contributing to landfill.

  1. Thread Count

Thread count refers to the number of threads within a square inch of fabric. Ideally, bamboo sheets will have a thread count of 300 or higher. Higher thread count results in bedding that feels softer and more durable and thus, higher quality. However, thread count for bamboo bedding is often very different when compared to thread count in cotton sheets – as the bamboo threads are woven in an entirely different way. This may affect the cost of bamboo sheets, as retailers will charge higher prices when the thread count is higher. However, thread count is a controversial topic when it comes to bamboo fabrics – more on that in our bamboo sheets thread count piece.

  1. Retailers

The cost of bamboo sheets also depends on the retailer’s own perception of their product’s quality or other marketing considerations. Some retailers may wish to undervalue their product with respect to its quality to build brand awareness or disrupt the market. Discretion varies between retailers.
